SALT LAKE CITY The University of Utah women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 during the season at the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship after scoring a nail biter against Ole Miss. Guard Kennady McQueen scored two free throws in the final seconds of the game to end the Utes at the top, 69-67 Wednesday night. Utah had a great week, moving up to No. 17 in the latest AP Top 25 while also conducting deals against Alabama.

“What a game,” said head coach Lynne Roberts. “I’m so proud of our team for finding a way to win. Ole Miss did a good job setting the tone of the game with her defense and physicality. We didn’t shoot well, bounced out and still found a way. It’s been an amazing week for us here and the last couple of games have really tested us and shown us what we’re good at and what we need to keep working on, but I love this team!”
Who leads the way for the Utah women
Four Utes had a double-digit night, with Alissa Pili leading the way with 21 points. Jenna Johnson was next at 16, and McQueen and Gianna Kneepkens added another 10 each.
Johnson was the top rebounder to collect 10 from the boards against the Rebels, along with her second double-double.
Looking at assists, three Utes dominated in Wednesday’s affair with Ole Miss in Pili, Johnson and McQueen all three scoring.
Overall, the Utes shot 46% from the ground. This is the sixth straight game Utah has shot over 45% from the ground early in the season.
Individually, Pili had a cool 57% from ground shooting while Johnson finished the evening on 60%.
