Texas moves to secure its southern border against “invasion” of illegal immigrants ` Texas

The Texas Department of Defense is sending 10 M113 armored personnel carriers to the state’s southern border as “part of a broader strategy to use all available means to combat record-breaking levels of illegal immigration.” military time reported.

The order, which includes training 50 soldiers to operate the vehicles, came days after Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted that he had “invoked the invasion clauses of the US and Texas constitutions to fully authorize Texas, unprecedented.” To take action to protect our state against invasion.”

It was the governor’s latest response to a huge influx of illegal immigrants into his state.

As reported by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), fiscal year (FY) 2022 was the highest on record for encounters with immigrants entering the country illegally, with the U.S. Border Patrol and Office of Field Offices reporting 2,766 .582 List encounters with agents.

Those numbers far exceeded the total of 1,956,519 in FY2021 and the 646,822 encounters in FY2020.

Most of these encounters, 2,378,944 in FY2022, take place on the southwestern border of the United States, which stretches from the tip of Texas through New Mexico and Arizona to San Diego, California.

And these are reported encounters: It’s impossible to know how many immigrants slip across the southern border into the US without being confronted by border officials. In addition to those arrested, the CBP also seizes drugs, fights the sex trade, loots counterfeit and pirated goods, and arrests criminals and gang members.

In March 2021, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began taking action to stem the tide, launching “Operation Lone Star” through the Department of Public Safety (DPS) “to combat people and drug smuggling into Texas.”

Abbott explained:

Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open borders policy that is causing, rather than preventing, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endangering the lives of Texans. We will increase the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to address this crisis.

Since its launch, the operation has “resulted in over 325,000 migrant arrests and more than 21,900 criminal arrests, with more than 19,400 criminal charges reported. In the fight against fentanyl, DPS has seized over 352 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this frontier mission.”

According to that military time, Operation Lone Star has sent thousands of soldiers and DPS officers to the border. The outlet said:

Efforts have included placing shipping containers and rows of DPS and military vehicles along the Rio Grande to deter migrants from crossing, and using state money and donations to build border barriers.

But the governor upped the ante last week, saying the state must defend itself against “what amounts to an invasion of America’s southern border” and announcing that Texas “has no choice but to escalate our efforts to secure our state.”

In a letter to President Biden, the governor said, “The U.S. Constitution was ratified, promising states in Article IV, Section 4 that the federal government will ‘protect each of them from invasion.'”

Abbott said Texans are paying the price for the government’s failure to secure the border:

Ranches are being torn apart and homes are vulnerable to invaders. Our border communities are regularly disrupted by human traffickers and rescue operations [cars with immigrants who “bailout” and flee into the country]. The deadly fentanyl is crossing the permeable limit at such a rate that it is now the leading cause of death for citizens between the ages of 18 and 45.

The letter also states that Texas is compelled “to invoke the powers reserved in Article I, §10, Clause 3, which constitutes an ‘acknowledgment of the sovereign interest of States in the protection of their borders.'”

The letter said:

With this authority, Texas will increase our efforts to deter and reject any immigrant attempting to enter our state at a crossing point that Congress has designated illegal; to return those crossing illegally to the border; and to arrest criminals violating Texas law.

Abbott also announced that he “directed DPS and the Texas Department of Defense to expand their unprecedented efforts to combat growing illegal immigration along the Texas-Mexico border.”

In addition to the armored personnel carriers, the military time stated the Texas National Guard is “increasing ‘aircraft flights and security efforts’ at the border.”

As the Daily Citizen has already said, border security is an issue Christians should be concerned about as it affects families and children. The open borders policy has resulted in a huge influx of single adults, families and children, many of whom are unaccompanied.

Children and women are victims of rape, abuse and sex trafficking. And families are harmed by criminals and gang members crossing the border, and by the flow of drugs and guns into the US

Thankfully, Texas is taking some steps to stem the tide and stop the damage.
