Updated Big 12 Bowl projections after Bedlam win < Oklahoma

Eight Big 12 teams are key-bound after Oklahoma and Texas Tech notched their sixth wins of the season on Saturday.

While it wasn’t the best season for the Sooners, they’ve gone 3-2 since their 0-3 start in the Big 12 and have a shot at an eight-win season if they can win in Lubbock Saturday and in their bowl matchup .

Only Iowa State and West Virginia failed to qualify for the postseason. TCU is headed for the college football playoffs, and Kansas State has a New Year’s Six Bowl in its host cities after a strong season.

While a lot can still happen in the final two weeks of Big 12 play, here are the latest Big 12 bowl projections from USA TODAY Sports.

Peach Bowl College Football Playoff: Georgia vs. Clemson

As USC climbs into fourth place in the college football playoffs, don’t forget perennial playoff tender Clemson. The Tigers have recovered well since their loss to Notre Dame and this loss to the Fighting Irish is looking a lot better.

Fiesta Bowl – College Football Playoff: TCU vs. Ohio State

It feels like Michigan’s winner against Ohio State will secure his place in the college football playoff provided he can seal the deal in the Big Ten title game. TCU has tough battles against a tough defense of Iowa State and either Kansas State or Texas in the Big 12’s title game before they can secure their place in the playoffs.

Sugar Bowl: State of Kansas vs. Alabama

The Wildcats are having their best season under Chris Kleiman with two different quarterbacks. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein has had a great year. A tough task facing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl could be the icing on the cake of a fantastic season for Kansas State.

Alamo Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Washington

Spencer Sanders vs. Michael Penix would be a lot of fun in what would most likely be a high-scoring affair. The two teams have only played three times in their history, each since 1980. The only loss the Pokes have suffered was with Jimmy Johnson at the helm.

Cheez-It Bowl: Texas vs. Florida State

The Cheez-It Bowl prediction remained the same as last week. Texas is likely locked into this one unless Kansas State loses and the Longhorns win. Then it’s off to the Sugar Bowl for Texas. Regardless of what bowl they play in, they’re unlikely to have Bijan Robinson on the field as he prepares for the NFL draft.

Texas Bowl: Baylor vs. Missouri

Last week it was Baylor versus Arkansas. Instead of a Southwest Conference reunion, the Texas Bowl gets a Big 12 reunion.

Liberty Bowl: Oklahoma vs. South Carolina

11/19/2022; Colombia, South Carolina, United States; South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler (7) directs his offense against the Tennessee Volunteers in the second half at Williams-Brice Stadium. Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma’s Bowl is entering its 23rd straight season. Several times, the Sooners were projected to play the South Carolina Gamecocks. That means a reunion with Shane Beamer and Spencer Rattler.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Kansas vs. Maryland

11/19/2022; Lawrence, Kansas, USA; Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels (6) falls back to pass while Ovie Oghoufo (18) defends the Texas Longhorns defensive end in the first half at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The second half of the season hasn’t been going so well for the Kansas Jayhawks, but they’re still ready to play. This could be a fun matchup between two prolific offenses.

First Responders Bowl: Texas Tech vs. San Jose St.

Regardless of what happens this week, the Red Raiders are in the bowl for the second straight season. While this isn’t as intriguing a duel as last year’s with Mississippi State, bowling is off to a strong start in Joey McGuire’s first season.
