APR is partnering with leading retail platform Matahari to launch a textile waste disposal program

PANGKALAN KERINCI, Indonesia, November 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Asia Pacific Rayon (“APR“), the first fully integrated viscose producer in Asiahas announced its collaboration with of Indonesia largest retail platform, Matahari, to launch a new textile waste management program. APR is a member of Singapore-Headquarters of the RGE group of companies, founded by Sukanto Tanoto.

The program, part of Matahari’s ESG Sunrise project, encourages Matahari’s customers to get involved in reducing textile waste through a recycling program. In the first phase, the program focuses on the trade-in of Nevada denim clothing at three Matahari stores in Supermal Karawaci at TangerangMetropolitan mall on bekasi and Ciputra Mall jakarta.

Basrie Kamba, Director of APR, said: “In line with our goal of supporting Indonesia’s sustainable textile and fashion industry, Asia Pacific Rayon is proud to support Matahari in the implementation of this eco-friendly program. As part of our efforts, we provide sorting facilities in each store, which essentially consist of drop boxes with clear instructions on how to collect second-hand denim from Mataharis customers. We believe this program will help reduce 26 tons of in-store textile waste will contribute Indonesia through our sorting, tracing and chemical recycling processes.”

This textile waste disposal project is part of Matahari’s rebranding efforts. Matahari improves its workplace and stores to create more eco-friendly environments, and it also increases the number of eco-friendly products by using biodegradable grocery bags and introducing paper bags in all stores. In addition, it also channels the use of more energy from renewable resources. After launching this textile waste disposal program in the first stores, Matahari will continue the program in other stores Indonesia.
