MEET THE OPPONENT
The Hawkeyes enter the PK Legacy 4-1 with the nation No. 9. Iowa is led by Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year Caitlin Clark and preseason All-Big Ten pick Monika Czinano. They will test Oregon State’s defense with an offense that has 80+ points in four of their five games this season. The Hawkeyes have been in their last three games with an overtime win at Drake, a one-point loss to Kansas State and a 73-62 win over a troublesome Belmont team that finished the second round of the NCAA tournament last year achieved, put to the test.
DEFENSIVE GAME CHANGER
Bendu Yeaneys The arrival at Corvallis gives the Beavers a strong defender on the ball they haven’t had since the Gabby Hansen days. Yeaney, an Arizona transfer, has had 19 three-steal games over the past two seasons, with her team going 13-6 in those contests. The senior also had at least one steal and one block in 39 games during her career. Your team is 31-8 in these games.
CERTIFIED BUCKET GETTER
Talia von Ölhoffen joined an exclusive list of Rueck-era Beavers when she scored 31 points against USC last season. Only six other Beavs have scored 30+ points over the past 12 seasons: Jamie Weisner, Marie Gulich, Aleah Goodman, Ruth Hamblin, Kat Tudor, and Destiny Slocum. After 32 points against EWU on Thursday, von Oelhoffen is the first Beaver under Rueck to score 30+ twice in his career.
After a year of development behind the Ellie Mack, sophomore AJ Quirk is poised to take on a larger role in 2022-23. The Texan had double-digit goals in two games last season and has already surpassed that total this year with double-digit goals in all four games. Marotte has also averaged 7 rebounds per game.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE ON TAP
Raegan beers wasted little time making a name for himself on the floor, collecting double-doubles in her second and third collegiate games. Beers is one of only three true freshmen with two double-doubles in their first three games this season. She’s also the only true freshman in the Power 6 to have 20 points in a double-double this season.
