Animal shelter in Indiana hosting a Black Friday adoption event

HSHC said the love for pets is priceless, so adopters can make a donation of any amount to get a pet on Black Friday.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Indiana — The Humane Society for Hamilton County — desperate for space amid what shelter staff are calling a “crisis” — is hosting a Black Friday adoption event where people can donate as little as $1 to order her to take home pet.

The shelter’s “Priceless” adoption event will be held on Friday, November 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

HSHC said the love for pets is priceless, so adopters can make a donation of any amount to get a pet on Black Friday.

The shelter is extremely crowded at the moment. Employees hope adoptions during the event will provide additional space to allow HSHC to rescue animals currently at risk of euthanasia from other Indiana shelters.

“We are in a crisis, which means we are unable to help the other shelters that depend on us, like IACS,” said Rebecca Stevens, President and CEO of HSHC.

HSHC is one of the few non-licensed, truly “no-kill” organizations in the United States because they do not euthanize animals for time, space, treatable injuries, illnesses, or rehabilitative behavior problems, regardless of age, breed, disability, or special needs, he said a press release.

At the moment, the shelter has hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats, with dogs being the primary capacity issue.

“Every day we count kennels to see where we can house dogs and cats that come into our shelter,” Stevens said. “We need to make sure pets go out the front door so we have room for those coming in the back door.”

Nice Wednesday! We are very happy for all the dogs and cats that were adopted this week 🐾 Dogs: Grissom & Miss…

Before you head to the shelter on Black Friday, there are a few things you need to know:

  • HSHC requires adopting dogs to bring all family members and any dogs in the home to meet with a potential shelter dog.
  • Cat adopters must bring all human family members with them.
  • These rentals are recommended to bring the landlord’s pet policy with them.
  • All adopters must present government-issued ID.

All pets put up for adoption are spayed/neutered, microchipped and have at least one age-appropriate vaccination.
