History of the band:
This is the third of twelve encounters between the Wolf Pack and the islanders this season and the third of six in Total Mortgage Arena. The wolf pack will welcome the islanders in the next part of the rivalry, one month from today, December 23rd. The series returns to Bridgeport four days later on December 27, the location of four of the first five meetings.
The islanders won the second round of the “Battle of Connecticut” on November 5th. Samuel Bolduc opened the scoring for the 6:06 in the game by firing a shot home from the blue line with a late penalty against the Wolf Pack. CJ Smith leveled the game after just 1:00 of the second half, but Arnaud Durandeau restored the Islanders’ lead at 2:46 with his second goal of the season.
Durandeau scored his second goal of the evening at 10:00 in the third period on the power play while Andy Andreoff extended the lead to 4-1 just over three minutes later at 1:06.
The Wolf Pack pushed late and scored twice in 33 seconds to make things interesting. Hartford scored a power play goal thanks to Tim Gettinger at 17:11, while Gustav Rydahl scored his second goal of the season at 17:44.
However, William Dufour would hit the empty net at 19:41, cementing the 5-3 win for the Islanders.
The Islanders are 2-0-0-0 in the relay series and are averaging 5.00 goals per game against the Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack, meanwhile, have won two of their last three games away from home after opening the season with five straight losses.
They’re 7-4-0-1 against the Islanders, dating back to the start of the 2021-22 season.
View of the wolf pack:
The Wolf Pack rebounded with a strong 4-2 win over the Hershey Bears on Sunday afternoon, earning a chunk of their weekend trip to Chocolatetown. Andy Welinski opened the scoring in the contest by scoring home a power play goal on the first shot of the game 3:49 into the contest.
Julian Napravnik and Henrik Borgstrom scored at 10:05 and 16:53 respectively to give the Bears a 2-1 lead, but Wolf Pack starting goaltender Louis Domingue would slam the door from that point.
Ben Harpur lunged for a rebound and scored his second goal of the season 51 seconds from midfield, leveling the competition 2-2. The goal was Hartford’s second shorthanded goal of the year. Ty Emberson blasted home a one-timer at 5:58 to give Hartford back the lead while Will Cuylle hit the empty net to cement the two points.
Welinsky leads the Wolf Pack with ten points (3g, 7a) in his first season at the club. Gettinger and Lauri Pajuniemi are tied at the top of the table with five goals. Velinsky has scored in two straight games and is tied for 12th among defenders in the AHL.
