Alabama Women’s Basketball Rallies claim a 61-58 win over Wake Forest in the Pink Flamingo Championship

NASSAU, Bahamas – In a game that included 11 lead changes and six ties, the Alabama women’s basketball team emerged victorious, beating Wake Forest 3-3, 61-58, on Wednesday, the final day of the Pink Flamingo Championship.

Megan Abrams, who converted a three-point game with four seconds remaining on rule for the game-winning points, counted her second straight double-digit game and went ahead by 14 points against Alabama (3-2). Davis recorded 12 points and seven rebounds jada rice scored 11 points, three blocks and two rebounds.

Wake Forest had three players who hit double digits as Demeara Hinds had 18 points, Jewel Spear had 16 and Kaia Harrison had 12 points.

I’m just very proud of our team. I think that’s what really good teams do, which is finding a way to win games that are sometimes a bit ugly. I just really complimented our team for playing on track.”

  • The game difference came from free throws, as both the Tide and Deacs had 23 field goals and five three-pointers

How it happened

  • After a 5-2 Wake Forest start jada rice recorded back-to-back layups to give UA a 6-5 lead at 4:09
  • However, the Deacs beat the tide 13-4 and ended the quarter with an eight-point lead (18-10).
  • Three layups by Rice in the first four minutes of the second quarter punctuated a 13-5 run by The Tide that tied the game 23-23 (3-49).
  • With two minutes left at half time, Megan Abrams converted a three-point play to give UA their first lead since the first quarter (26-25)
  • Rice (10) and Abrams (6) combined for 16 points at halftime as UA went 28-26 behind at the break
  • Six points down Brittany Davis and a layup by Abrams put UA back ahead (34-31)
  • Alabama continued to extend their lead, recording a 13-7 sprint over the next four and a half minutes to take a nine-point lead (47-38) with less than two minutes remaining in the quarter
  • Wake Forest would hit back to make it a one-ball game by the end of the quarter, with UA leading 48-45
  • The two teams saw six lead changes and a draw in the fourth quarter of the game
  • A layup of Loyal McQueen gave UA a 4-27 lead (53-52).
  • Wake Forest maintained it as a one-possession game until time ran out, including tying the Crimson Tide at 58-58 with 17 seconds on the clock
  • Another three-point play by Abrams with four seconds on the clock capped the game and gave Tide the win
